Psalm 118 Can Change Your Day

It looked like it was going to be an all-day dreary event, and I was already too sullen and crabby. Several years ago, Larry and I had been hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail and on day number four, we woke up greeted with a cold, rainy, dreary, day. It looked like it was going to be an all-day dreary event. As I put on my backpack, I was all set to be sullen and very crabby.  Then Larry started our morning devotions with Psalm 118:24. He read,  (adding a word for emphasis), “This too is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

Oh darn!  Just when I was going to wallow in dripping self-pity, God told me that today was a gift and I should be happy in it! So I decided that I definitely needed an attitude adjustment.  I started to count my blessings: I had the physical strength to walk the ups and downs of the Pacific Crest Trail. I was with my best friend. We had seen four days of majestic beauty. It was wet on the outside but dry on the inside. We had food and water. God still loved us and promised to be with us. Psalm 118:24 changed my day. Yes, even when the day is dark and dreary, even when we are sad, discouraged, and suffering – Psalm 118:24 can remind us that we have reasons to rejoice. For our God is faithful and has promised to be with us. Let Psalm 118:24 change your day.

I really like the following prayer for it reminds us of God’s promises:

God hath not promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways all our life through; God hath not promised sun without rain, joy without sorrow, peace without pain. But God hath promised strength for the day, rest for the labor, light for the way, grace for the trials, help from above, unfailing sympathy, undying love.

Thank you Lord for this day and the promises you give to us.

WOW ! Rejoicing and being glad in the day that the Lord has given you , all day long and even into the night, even in the rain, the storm, the darkness, the days of sadness and all the other days in between, takes my heart and soul and my eyes focused on the One who gave us this day!
Count your blessings, of which all of them came from God , and name them one by one and you will see what great things He has done. We just witnessed again Resurrection Sunday and the Gift of Grace that was displayed on the Cross given to all who believe ! And we can rejoice and be Glad !!
Thanks Larry and Karen especially , for bringing Sunshine and SONshine into the day that was full of gloom and grumpiness ,if you would have not changed your attitude and counted your blessings !
