One day when I was caring for my friend Pat, a cancer patient, she asked me to type and print her favorite Bible verses- one verse on each sheet of paper. Then we posted one verse in each room of her home. Then she said, “Now when I walk into a room I have something positive to read and think about. God’s words to me give me hope, courage and strength for the day.”
Later when we walked into her kitchen, we both read God’s word to us, “do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”
Pat suggested that caregivers ask the person they are caring for, “What are your favorite Bible verses?” Following are Pat’s favorites.
Proverbs 3:6 “In all ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Psalm 91:4 “. . .He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and rampart.”
Isaiah 41:10 “. . .do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”
Isaiah 49:15,16 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.”
Jeremiah 29:11-14 “When you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord . . . .”
Words of wisdom to all caregivers and to those who are suffering, is one of Pat’s favorite verses: from Proverbs 3:6 “In all ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
