Can you imagine frying 8-10 pounds of bacon every Wednesday morning? Well, that’s what Grandma Peggy does. This amazing woman gets up at 4:30 AM and prepares breakfast for the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club, which includes dozens of teenagers on any given Wednesday.
Why? Because her grandson, Sam, told his friends that his Grandma Peggy’s breakfasts were “way better” than the breakfast place he and his friends were hanging out at before school.
So, Peggy offered to host them and the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club was born. When 15-year-old Sam was killed by a hit-and-run driver, everyone would have understood if Peggy stopped serving breakfast.
But she didn’t. She knew Sam’s friends were grieving just like she was, so she kept serving breakfast on Wednesday mornings, and has continued to do so for several years.
Something beautiful has happened between Peggy and her teenage friends: they have walked together through their grief. And the teens have started to care for Peggy too. They now send her texts to check in, have helped paint her house and have driven her to the hospital to visit an ailing daughter.
Peggy says that the more grief there is, there are also more chances for love. And her story surely proves that.
So, if you’re grieving, perhaps you can follow Peggy’s example and reach out and care for people who are hurting . . .and you just may find that when you do, you also receive care and love in return.
God Bless.
