Doesn’t this sound like fun?

One of the members of our ministry, Chris, participated in a Caroling Night Out during the holidays. Chris’ sister-in-law rented a small school bus. Then Chris, his wife Becky, his four children (ages 6, 4, 2 and a newborn!) and as many family members and friends as the bus could hold all piled in for an adventure to help spread Christmas cheer.

They decided to visit a retirement community in Holland, Michigan. Chris says, “After we finished singing, a number of the residents thanked us, and interacted with our children.” Everyone had so much fun, recalls Chris.  The kids loved the model train that was set up in the retirement community’s common room. In fact, the merry group of carolers was having such a good time they ended up staying longer than planned to watch the train do loops around the track and talk with residents.

“The residents had the biggest smiles on their faces and seemed genuinely grateful that we were there. And this is in spite of the fact that we were less like a choir, and more like a boisterous, musical rabble,” Chris told me. They loved to see the little children bundled up in their winter garb and joining in the carols.

It sounds like so much fun, and Chris and his family are considering making this a family tradition.

I hope that this inspires some of you to find ways to bring joy to other people this Christmas.
