Proverbs 21:23: “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.”
Diane and I worked together. We were friends, but Diane had the habit of always cleaning out the break room refrigerator. Well, on this particular day she had, once again, cleaned out the refrigerator and threw out my pitcher of Kool-Aid which I had put in the refrigerator just that morning.
Later, when I went to have a refreshing glass of Kool-Aid, it was gone. Of course, I knew exactly what had happened. Well…I blew my top to Diane and for anyone listening within a ten-mile radius.
Many were shocked at my outburst, but Diane just laughed (thank goodness).
The next day when I arrived at work, there was a package of Kool-Aid on my desk. My anger had subsided and I felt a little foolish. Diane and I laughed and hugged and are friends to this very day. The results of this simple incident could have been very different.
I put that package of Kool-Aid in my desk drawer, and it still reminds me that I should “keep my cool,” and remember the wise words of Proverbs 21:23: “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.”
