The following story comes to us from Linda Jameson, who cared for her husband Jim when he was battling cancer. Linda’s story is found in the book, The Miracle of Kindness by Jim Kok.
A friend loves at all times, and kinsfolk are born to share adversity – Proverbs 17:17
“My husband Jim received many acts of kindness during his battle with cancer. The one that stood out was the dedication of two members of our class, Earl Howe and Bill Bryant. Every Friday after Jim was on Hospice, without fail, they would come over and take Jim to lunch, wheelchair and all. When Jim could no longer accompany them, they would bring lunch to the house. When he could no longer eat, they would sit and talk with him. When he could no longer talk, they would sit and talk to each other and shoo me out for some time by myself. Although Jim couldn’t speak near the end, he knew they were there with him.”
This story is a wonderful example of how to love a friend “at all times;” not just when times are fun, but also when times are difficult. Earl and Bill loved—and kept on loving—their friend, Jim.
