Another God Nudge Story by Karen

Do you believe in God Nudges? What is a God Nudge? I learned from a pastor a long time ago, if someone comes into your mind—especially someone who you do not see or talk to on a regular basis. Pay attention! It may be God nudging to contact that person.

An example of a God Nudge in my life happened a year ago.

Guard Your Mouth

By Loretta Newton Proverbs 21:23:  “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.” Diane and I worked together.  We were friends, but Diane had the habit of always cleaning out the break room refrigerator.  Well, on this particular day she had, once again, cleaned out the refrigerator and threw out my pitcher […]

Be There Even When You Do Not Want To Be There

Jesus tells us, “Love your neighbor,” and he does not add: “when you feel like it.”

Deanna Thompson, Professor of Religion at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, has written a book about her journey with Stage IV breast cancer. The title of her book is Hoping for More: Having Cancer, Talking Faith, and Accepting Grace

In her book Deanna talks about the importance of being there for a friend who is suffering. Following is one example she gives:

Being A Friend To A Sick Friend

How can I be a friend to a friend who’s sick?

Letty Pogrebin in her book, How to Be a Friend to a Friend Who’s Sick, gives the following advice:

1. The best response in any encounter with a sick friend is to say, “Tell me what I can do to make things easier for you—I really want to help.”

Caring Friends

Remember Job was a brokenhearted father and husband, wracked with disease and doubt and grief. His friends heard about his troubles and set out to go and console and comfort him. When they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him and they raised their voices and wept aloud. They tore their robes and threw dust in the air upon their heads. They sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.” (Job 2:11-13). His friends were there with him. They sat with him. They did not speak a word for seven days. Wow! To be that kind of care giving friend!

Face to Face Time

Lillain Daniel, Pastor and author shares the following story and challenging question: There was a story a while back about a guy on Facebook who had about 900 friends, and he invited them all to a party.  You know the punch line: not one of them showed up. It was an experiment to see whether […]

Consider the Geese

I love watching a large flock of Canadian geese flying in their V-formation. They speak of the changing of seasons and also of the value of teamwork. We can learn to be better caregivers if we consider the ways of the geese.

Did you know that when a goose gets sick or wounded, it never falls from formation by itself? Two other geese will fall out of formation with it and follow the ailing goose down to the ground.
