Bored. Depressed. Unmotivated . . . Do something new. When is the last time you did something new?
My answer: a long time but . . .
Here is a recent picture of me doing something “new.” Larry and I attended the “Frog Leg Festival” in a little town in Florida, and Larry challenged me to do something new: eat a frog leg. It looked kind of creepy, but I did it. Yes, I did something new. Yes, it tasted like chicken.

That was a fun new thing to try, but more importantly, doing a new thing is vital to our cognitive health and may help to deter the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Many articles recommend keeping the brain active by learning new skills, such as reading, playing musical instruments, learning a new language, solving puzzles and playing new challenging games.
You could call this a “two-fer”: 1) trying new things adds interest and vitality to your life, and 2) new experiences may also help to deter dementia.
I have a closet full of games which I have never played; so, I will learn how to play one new game this week.
What “new thing” will you try this week?
