Kindness is one of the simplest gifts we can offer—and one of the most powerful.
When someone is walking through grief, crisis, loneliness, or uncertainty, even the smallest gesture can feel like light breaking through the darkness.
You may have heard the phrase “random acts of kindness.” Maybe you’ve experienced one yourself: an unexpected note, a smile at the right moment, a helping hand when you felt worn down. These small acts may seem ordinary, but they often carry extraordinary weight.
At Wisdom of the Wounded, we believe kindness is more than a nice idea—it’s a foundational part of how we care for one another. So, we’d like to offer a few stories and resources to inspire you to build a daily practice of compassion, generosity, and grace.
Some of our favorite kindness stories are:
- In Michigan where our ministry is based, winter sometimes brings on the doldrums. Here’s how being kind to others can lift your spirits too.
- Read how a Tournament of Roses Parade float sparked a conversation with an organization with a mission to show kids that kindness costs nothing, but has huge return on investment.
- An inspirational story from Nobel Prize winning author Toni Morrison sets the stage for how to welcome people with open arms by “starting kind.”
- Are you a parent to a teen or twenty-something? There’s still opportunity for you to mentor them on ways to show kindness to others. Here’s one mother’s story.
- Never underestimate the power of a smile.
We hope these stories inspire you to notice the everyday opportunities to extend compassion. In a world where many are carrying heavy burdens, kindness becomes a powerful way to say, “You are not alone.” May we all practice it freely and often.
