My grandson Cole’s wedding was picture perfect. There were white swans gliding in the picturesque pond, and majestic mountains framed the scene. The bride was beautiful and radiant, and the groom was so handsome. There was love in the air . . . and then at the reception the father of the groom, my son Jeff, gave a toast which was thought-provoking and challenging to the newlyweds (and to all the couples– even to Larry and me, who have been married 60 years.) We were reminded of three ways to love and care for our partners.
3 Pieces of Marriage Advice
- Nobody marries the All-Star Team. We all have our strengths and weaknesses; strong partners focus on each others’ strengths.
- In all marriages, we must choose: do we want to be right . . . or do we want to be successful in our daily interactions with our partners?
- When there are struggles or miscommunications – ask yourself, “What else can I do? This isn’t the same as, “what more can I do?” “What else” means – be creative in your response to the situation.
