Our special friend Jim died recently. As I searched for ways to care for Melanie, Jim’s companion, and Jami, his daughter, I discovered a wonderful way to offer a caring gift for a bereaved friend. It’s called a “Laurel Box.” These handcrafted gifts are a unique way to show care, love and support for those who have suffered a loss.
According to their website, laurelbox is an online shop that “offers thoughtfully curated gift boxes designed to nourish a heart after loss.” Many of the gifts are handmade by independent artisans. I chose the gift “Nourish the Soul Herbal Tea.” It felt so pleasing to connect with Melanie and Jami in a new, thoughtful way.
During checkout, I had the option of including a message. I chose a suggested phrase which is gentle and sensitive: “I pray that this gift nourishes your heart. Thinking of you.”
When a loved one passes away, many people arrive to show support during the first few weeks of loss. We need to remember that bereavement may last a very long time. Weeks or months after a loss, people still grieve. When you send a caring gift to a bereaved friend, you are helping them cope with their grief, which often lasts much longer than we can imagine.
Looking forward to your help. People I care about need lifted out of the pain and loss. Others are starting health journeys and I want to offer assurance they will not be alone. Your ideas on how we can help will be a blessing.
Thank you. God bless you.
