Lillain Daniel, Pastor and author shares the following story and challenging question:

There was a story a while back about a guy on Facebook who had about 900 friends, and he invited them all to a party.  You know the punch line: not one of them showed up.

It was an experiment to see whether Facebook friends really deserve the title of “friend.”  People were struck at the irony that someone with hundreds of online contacts couldn’t get one person to hang out with him.

Lillain asks, “Is our culture so disconnected that we are in constant touch electronically, but just too busy to see one another in person?”

Recently a friend was visiting for just a few days and one afternoon she said, “Would you like to take a walk with me on the beach?  I almost said, “I need to work on a radio program.”  Then I remembered that the title of that radio program was “The Importance of Being with a Friend.”  So we walked and talked.  It was a beautiful day with big frothy ocean waves, a blue sky and brilliant sun shine.  She told me about a difficult situation she was dealing with at work.  We talked about kids and grandkids. The shared hour was a gift I almost missed.

Take time to be with your friends—including your friend, Jesus.
