Whenever my mother was anxious or angry or just feeling low, she would go outside and dig in the dirt.  As she planted flowers or moved flowering shrubs, her spirits would slowly lift.  Dirt and flowers were her therapy. Her favorite outdoor flower was pansies. To this day, when I see the sweet faces on pansies, I think of my sweet mother.

So when I saw the In the Garden gift set by laurelbox, I immediately knew that I wanted to order this “garden in a bag.”  This spring I will find a special place in my flower garden and I will plant the pansy seeds from the gift set and think of my mother. Perhaps I will invite my granddaughter Ashlee, who is old enough to remember her great-grandparents. Ashlee now has young children – as we prepare the soil and plant the seeds, I will share some stories about my mother with two generations.

The gift set also contains mini wind chimes; I think I will hang it in a tree near a swing where I often sit and find some peace and joy.  The chimes will also pleasantly remind me of my mom and other significant people who have blessed my life.

It’s so important to remember the important people in our lives, even after they have passed on. Do you know someone who enjoys gardening and whose mother has passed away? Sending a small “garden in a bag” gift (or even a simple note!) would be a meaningful way to commemorate your friend’s mother.
