This morning it happened! I slowly, very slowly, climbed the 239 steps of Mt. Pisgah. For the last several weeks, I have climbed those steps. My reward, once on top, is to walk one of the foot paths and look for signs of “spring.” Just two days ago, I finally saw a green leaf poking its head up through the matted, brown, dead leaves. That green leaf made my heart smile. New life was happening again.
Then this morning, there they were in all their glory: Dutchman’s Breeches! Like a miracle. Anyway, I felt so happy inside, I wanted to share this good news with someone. However, the only other person around was my husband, Larry, and he had just finished climbing 4 sets of 239 steps with a back pack, and he was at the bottom of the stairs. When I joined him at the bottom, I told him the good news that he had missed. He did not seem eager to climb those 239 steps again to see it; so tomorrow, I will show him “new life and the Dutchman’s Breeches.”
Robert Fulghum says, “Remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned—the biggest word of all—LOOK.” Look and see God at work bringing life out of death, hope out of despair and peace out of chaos.
