Child Abuse: Awareness, Care & Prevention

Did you know experts estimate that 1 in 10 children are sexually abused before their 18th birthday?  Even more troubling is that research shows that the greatest risk to children doesn’t come from strangers, but from family and friends. As many as 90% of sexually abused children are abused by a family member or someone the child knows and trusts. This means it’s highly likely that you know a child who has been or is being abused. Child abuse is a difficult subject to talk about, but we must learn to do so. Here at Wisdom of the Wounded, we offer tips on “what to say or do” and resources to help you care for individuals in this situation or other types of abusive situations.

Wisdom of the Wounded has an ongoing collaboration with our local community’s Children’s Advocacy Center (“CAC”), a nonprofit agency that provides programs and support services for child victims and their families which will enable them to heal emotionally and physically. There are over 800 CAC’s in the United States. For more information, visit the National Children’s Alliance. Click here to find a CAC in your area.
