Thank You Power

Today I received in the mail a hand written thank you note! This is a most unusual event and one to be celebrated. I was so impressed by the gesture that the note now occupies a place on my desk.

Many years ago, a business guru, Tom Peters ranked writing a thank you note to your employees as one of the best ways to succeed as a business leader. Peters says, “A former boss religiously took about 15 minutes at the end of each day at 5:30 to write short notes to people who’d given him time during the day, or who’d made a provocative remark at some meeting. He was dumbfounded by the number of recipients who subsequently thanked him for thanking them!”

William James, a psychologist, says, “The deepest human need is the need to be appreciated.” Tom Peters reiterates this by quoting Ken Langone, the founder of Home Depot, who said, “The two most powerful things in existence:  a kind word and a thoughtful gesture.”

Thank You Power isn’t only for those in the business world, but is an invitation for all of us to make a difference in someone’s life. Don’t procrastinate; write a thank you note, today.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!
