When visiting a person in a nursing home or a person who is home-bound, consider giving the person a hostess basket:

To create a hostess basket, fill the basket with an array of treats: such as, chocolate kisses, fresh fruit, bags of trail mix, home-baked cookies etc. The beauty of this gift, is that the nursing or home-bound person will have treats to offer visitors and/or the staff. It is fun to have something to share with others.

When my mother was in a nursing home, we assembled another type of hostess basket. We bought an assortment of candies and salty snacks and some attractive see-through plastic bags to my mother’s room. Then we set-up a little assembly line to fill the bags. Each person added something to the bag. Although my mother only had the use of one hand, she happily deposited a chocolate truffle into each bag. Then we tied the bag with a ribbon, and then put the bags in a large basket. Then during the following days, my mother happily offered a pretty treat bag to visitors and to the nursing home staff.

Remember: It is a blessing for all to give a gift.
