The news networks definitely keep us informed about all the “bad news” people and what they are doing. So, sometimes we need to remember that there are also a lot of “good news” people out there too. We just do not hear about them as often. Today I want to share a good news story.

Every Thursday, Robby Dilmore visits a local nursing home and shares a devotion and some humor with the residents.  He looks forward to this time each week.

The residents greet Robby’s arrival with enthusiasm and start spreading the news, “The Man with the Papers” is here!” Robby knows that the residents love it when you give them something to hold onto after you leave. Robby says, Thus, I began writing down jokes and cute stories. So when I visit, I start my devotion with the jokes and then give a copy to each person. To say the sheets of jokes were a big hit would be an understatement. The residents collect these papers and even request copies for their nieces or grandkids.”

It is so true that when you “give” to others you also “get” in return.  Luke 6:38 tells us, “Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

So Robby not only brings himself and shares a devotion, but he also gives them the gift of humor—which they can then share with others. What a blessing!

Here is a sample:  You know you’re getting “Marvelously Mature” when:

  1. You and your teeth don’t sleep together.
  2. Your back goes out but you stay home.
  3. At the breakfast table you hear snap, crackle, pop and you’re not eating cereal.
  4. It takes two tries to get up from the couch.
  5. Your idea of a night out is sitting on the patio.
  6. When happy hour is a nap.
  7. When you’re on vacation and your energy runs out before your money does.
  8. It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired.
  9. It takes twice as long – to look half as good.
  10. You wonder how you could be over the hill when you don’t even remember being on top of it.

Thanks Robby for being a good news person–and for making it so that others can pass along humor to others. It creates a wonderful process of spreading joy. You can hear some of Robby’s car-themed jokes at his website Christian Car Guy. Spread the laughter!
